Rear Admiral Hess ran down the polished stone floor of the King’s private mansion.
He felt practically deaf already, the echoing of his naval thigh-high boots mixed with his heart pounding in his ears.
Somehow, he missed the sound of bolt rifles popping in the darkness.
As Hess burst into his Lord Highness's private sleeping chamber, the purple-red blood-stained sheets ground him to a halt. The radiant heat and putrid smell of Orcari blood filled his nostrils.
His royal body had been hacked into several large chunks of flesh, and the pair of Dahlmite assassins looked up at Hess in surprise. “Today the Wami Empire Falls,” he hissed as Hess lifted his pistol and fired.

What is Empirefall Chronicles?
The sci-fi universe of Stellar Empire is, in a word … massive. And it continues to grow.
Developed by a trio of Science Fiction writers - Robert Fike, Mike Rogers, and Andrew Sears - Stellar Empire began its early days as a setting for a series of Board Games (published by JAMR, LLC).
To flesh out the lore of this shared universe, Andrew developed an idea for a small series of novellas that would focus on the interpersonal stories of characters caught up in major galactic events.
As one empire falls, another rises; these are the stories of people who were caught up in those moments of history.
The Series
The first book in the Empirefall Chronicles, Born of Ash and Iron, will be free on Substack and released in weekly chapter-by-chapter bites. These chapters, averaging around 1,200 words, are truly the “first draft” of the book, with an eventual published hardcopy.
The other books in the series may also be released on Substack, or they may find their way direct-to-print; we’re leaving that option up in the air for now.
We hope you enjoy the series. Check out our current Stellar Empire game, Skirmish, or read more on our Wiki.
